There are many little things you can do to make Raleigh house cleaning easier and more efficient. If cleaning requires less effort and time, you are likely to do it more often, resulting in a cleaner home.
- Furniture placement is important. If you have hardwood floors and an area rug in your living room, try to keep the couch and chairs off the wall about 5 inches, or the width of a dust mop (think of the size of a Swiffer mop). This makes it easy to dust mop the floor without having to move the furniture. This goes for the distance between chairs and end tables, bookshelves, planters, etc. If you have carpet, keep the width of your vacuum in mind and space your items accordingly, whenever possible.
- Keep your window blinds up about two inches from the sill. That way you don’t have to fiddle with them when you want to quickly use a dust cloth to keep your sills tidy. When choosing blinds, try to purchase ones with large wooden slats. Larger slats are easier to dust and keep clean.
- In general, less clutter means a cleaner home. But if you aren’t ready to put all your things out on the curb just yet, you can start by trying not to have too many unnecessary things on the floor. Put items such as step stools in a closet, magazines and books on a bookshelf, and shoes on a shoe tray or bin by the door. Use curtains that don’t “puddle” on the floor, they look nice but collect a lot of dirt. The less items you have to move or go around, the easier it is to quickly run a mop or vacuum when you need to.
- One area you can make a real difference right away in is the bathroom. In your shower, keep only what’s necessary out to use. Try not to have redundant bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotions, shaving items, etc. on shower seats or shelves. This goes for the vanity as well. Keep decorative items such as plants and candles to a minimum. Also, opt for liquid soap as opposed to bar soap. If you do choose to use bar soap, be sure to have a soap dish, preferably with as few ridges as possible for ease of clean.
